Our Trip to the Garage

On Wednesday some of Reception children went to the garage on the school minibus. Mrs Ward did the driving and it was bumpy! There was a leak and drips of water fell onto the floor. It was a short journey to Keighley and we arrived at Wilco Motorsave on time.

First we looked at the ramps. We saw two cars being repaired on the ramps and lots of tyres. Barry, the manager came to talk to us. It is his job to make sure the garage runs well. He showed us how work a vice and how to balance a tyre on a machine that spins round really fast.

After that he showed us around the shop. We saw some spanners, buckets and sponges for washing cars and tow bars. We listened to one man who answered the phone and he was helping the customers. He was doing some writing, finding out what’s wrong with the car and what time they were bringing it in.

When we got back to school we started to make our own car models. We used tubes for the exhaust pipes. Would you like to see our models?

Won’t you mind getting all dirty, though?

Did it take a long time to make the models like real cars?
