On Tuesday Reception and year 1 had a fantastic day at Yorkshire Wildlife Park. We had to set off bright and early to make sure that we had time to see all the animals.

The children were brilliantly behaved and enjoyed learning about how the animals were cared for especially the lions who had been rescued from a zoo with poor conditions in Romania. What special things can you remember that helped us to identify some of the individual lions.

We all also loved seeing the wallabies. They were very tame and friendly and didn’t mind us stroking them. We had lots of fun and even spotted the joeys being carried around in pouches. When the wallabies ran they could hop quite far and were very fast.

We had a talk from a lady called Ellie, she showed us lots of things, horns, teeth, claws and fur from different animals. Can you remember what they were?

All the groups walked a long way that day and used the map well to make sure that they didn’t get lost. What was your favourite animal? Why? If you haven’t been what animal would you most like to see? If you ask a question reception and year 1 will try their best to answer it.

Well done to Reception and Year One who had a special golden time treat! After a fantastic week we decided to have a ‘mini picnic’ and story at the story circle! We had a great time!

Trim Trail – now open for fun and fitness!

After a lot of hard work raising funds, the school and the PTFA have raised enough money to install a fantastic new trim trail in the play area near the Key Stage 1 playground. After a opening ceremony attended by all the children and many parents, lots of children had fun trying out the new equipment. As well as providing additional play opportunities the trim trail will also help the children develop strength, agility, coordination and fitness. Thanks to everyone who contributed including our friends at Bridge Timber who did a great job installing the trim trail despite the snow!

Harden vs Faversham U11 Semi Final Report

The game started with Harden winning the ball. Then came some slick passing,picking Faversham apart. Inevitably Harden scored,by Josh Landi putting Sam Seekins in,he took his time and scored a great goal. Taking Harden to a 1-0, lead a good start. Faversham’s star player took the ball past evry player on the Harden team. He took a shot…Only to be denied,by the quick reflexes of the goal keeper,Oliver Leadbeater,who tipped it onto the bar. Later in the dying seconds of the game,Faversham took a shot,it took a wicked deflection,and went in.The whistle blew,the game was going to penalties. As Harden won the toss they went first.The stand in captain George Galloway,took the first penalty and nailed it.Next Faversham took a penalty and scored.Callum buried his too!The next player stepped up to plate,infront of the daunting goal.He hit it hard,but not hard enough.Leadbeater had saved it. They’d won!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Attracting more bugs to our bug hotel!

We have been listening carefully to our school story, where the children are wondering why storks don’t nest in their village and linking it to our work on mini beasts.

We have been on lots of mini-beast searches and so far we haven’t seen any ladybirds or butterflies and only 2 bees.
Can you think why this might be?

We looked in our outdoor area for places where insects might like to live and found lots of places for worms, snails and slugs. Can you think where they were?

Today a group of children went on a special mission to the garden centre to choose some plants to help us.

We spoke to a lady who worked there and she suggested some plants to attract bees, lady birds and a special one for butterflies.

When we came back we carefully planted them in our garden.

Keep a careful look out to see if the new plants tempt new visitors. Which do you think we will see first?

Bug hotel – open for business

Reception and year 1 have been busy this week creating a bug hotel. We explored the school grounds to find things to make a comfortable habitat for the insects to live.

We collected the items and created little hotel rooms working together in pairs. Can you remember what materials we used?

In reception we worked with Mr Brook, he showed us how to use an electric drill and a hand drill. We made holes in logs that were left over from the trim trail to create homes for beetles and ladybirds.

We had to be very careful to make sure we kept ourselves safe. Can you remember why we had to wear goggles?

We used the old shop stand that had fallen apart. We are now waiting to welcome our first guests in the bug hotel.
