Why should we bother?

ICT is an extremely powerful tool for making observations, measuring, communicating and recording in all aspects of science. It engages the children and it focuses their attention on the investigation in hand and it allows an immediacy of recording. There is a golden triangle of science, literacy and ICT.

Many children have limited experiences and therefore we need to give the children high quality learning experiences at school. Science is a great vehicle for giving children exciting, engaging, challenging activities that develop not only scientific skills and knowledge, but also a broad range of speaking and listening skills e.g. going on a sound walk around the school grounds or making an Alka Seltzer rocket. These language rich activities can then be used as a starting point for purposeful writing in literacy, which can then culminate in a relevant ICT end product.

Our mantras are ‘keep it simple’ and ‘easy wins’.  We just wanted one but couldn’t agree! :)
