Review – Halifax Teachmeet, St Cath’s Catholic High, Jan 26th

At St Catherine's Catholic High School

Teachers transfer best practice at #TMHalifax

Over 30 Secondary and Primary school teachers shared innovative classroom ideas in a high-velocity practice transfer session at #tmhalifax on Thursday evening. It was a fun, informal, and slightly anarchic occasion, and a superb meal and drinks were prepared for all attendees by St Catherine’s own kitchen staff.

Some teachers opted for a two-minute ‘nano’ presentation, and some for a seven-minute ‘micro’ presentation on a wide variety of themes and mediums. A lively backchannel displayed real-time audience and community ‘tweets’ and the whole occasion ‘U-streamed’ live to an international audience (until tech gremlins struck!).

The rest of the evening stayed glitch-free and topics covered included instant starter activities, maths games, reading with Kindles, adventurous learning, timelines in Prezi, programming, note taking on iPods, lesson planning using Angry Birds, video editing on handhelds, castle making, tools for active learning, technology ‘no no’s’ and many more.

Feedback from sponsors (I Am Learning and The Innovation Centres), presenters and the odd ’lurker’ was extremely positive. Next stop ‘Count Me In’ Maths Teachmeet in Bradford on Feb 8th.
