Mr Harrison and Mr Young have just arrived in London where they will be spending the next two days working with other Headteachers and Deputy Headteachers from all over the country. This will help us gain new ideas to bring back to Bradford, so that we can make Miriam Lord an even better school.
While we are here, we thought it would be good to ask the children to take part in a research challenge. Could anybody tell us any interesting facts about London?
We will do our best to take some good photos from London, to share with children. The photo below should interest our potential Apprentice children as these are the offices where Lord Alan Sugar works.

Hello everyone at Miriam Lord. I have been taking a look at your school blog and I have to say it is fantastic. Even though general knowledge isnt my strongest subject and I much prefer the philosophy question I do have a interesting fact for you. Did you know the tallest building in London and the UK, is in Canary Wharf, which is part of the London Docklands. It is called the Canary Wharf Tower and stands at 244 metres or 800 feet high and was built in 1991.
Looking forward to see what else you all come up with. Good luck!
I know that you visit a shop called hamleys where you can buy a lot of cool toys or you could visit/see the huge gurkin!!Also you should try to visit the national science
museam and find some time to see the queens palace!
Thank you for your comment Safa and even though you suggest you some good landmarks, myself and Mr Young have to work. Although we aren’t staying too far from the gurkin, it looks impressive at night.
I know you are working but it is still exciting to be in London I think. I love going to London (although I’m usually glad to come home too).
What about a challenge?
Can you post a photo of:
The London Eye
Buckingham Palace
Nelson’s Column???
Mrs. Ryan
I’m sorry Mrs Ryan but I don’t we can, we will be in our hotel working for the next two days. However I like a challenge, so will do my best as we travel back home tomorrow.
Well, I can help with one of those: Codi, a very young blogger from Alexandra School, visited London with her teacher and her classmates, and related their journey in her blog. She got a very good picture of the London Eye, and posted it here: http://codirowlands.primaryblogger.co.uk/2011/11/22/london-eye-2/ .
Will be great if you visit the blog and leave a comment for her and her teacher, Mr. Elliot (@ikeontoast).

Mr Harrison did you have a great time .
I have been to London, it’s a huge city with so many things to see.
I know that in 1666 there was something called ‘The Great Fire of London’. I believe it was started in a bakery in Pudding Lane. Back then the houses were mostly built of wood and were very close together so the fire spread rapidly. They didn’t have a fire service with modern engines and huge hoses like we do today so I wonder how they managed to put it out?
About 25% of all people today are living in London! The Tower of London was originally built by William.Today the Tower of London houses are the Crown Jewels and is open to the public as a museum.Ravens have lived at the Tower of London for hundreds of years. The oldest Bridge , which was originally made from wood was built in1209. It was replaced by a stone bridge with shops and houses along its sides. The Tower Bridge is 60 meters long with towers that rise to a height of 43 meters.London Bridge is between the City of London and Southwark. It is between Cannon Street Railway. The Millennium bridge is about 320 metres,ay Bridge and Tower Bridge.A new bridge was built in 1831 to replace the old one.
An impressive range of facts Aisha. How did you find out so much about London?
I found so much facts about London by reading lots of facts on the internet.

Hello Samia. The picture is of Canary Wharf and is very close to where we are staying.

I hope all the headteachers you meet help Miriam Lord be a better school. Also have a nice time and im sure you enjoy it.
Welcome to London! My tip is to go to Borough Market for lunch on Friday. It’s great!
If you go to see Nelson’s Column, look very carefully at the top of the lamp posts along The Mall (the road Nelson is ‘looking’ down) and you will see a ship on the top of each one. Supposedly each one is a ship from his fleet. I picked up that tip from my Dad, a London taxi driver, who is FULL of random London facts like that!
Wow, what a lot of interesting facts and responses from the children of Miriam Lord. It’s amazing what they have been able to find out.
The internet is just amazing isn’t it? Where are all those facts and figures kept? It is mind blowing really isn’t it?
I hope you have learned a lot, Mr. Harrison. I am very glad to hear that you have been working so hard.
