Here at Miriam Lord we are hoping to achieve Fair Trade School Status. This means that the school fully supports Fair Trade, uses Fair Trade products where possible and promotes the Fair Trade label. Today we held our first Fair Trade steering group meeting with representatives from Year 5 and 6. Fair Trade means that millions of farmers across the world get a fair price for what they sell and a little extra – a Fair Trade premium. The farmers can use this extra money to help improve their communities by building access to fresh water, or sending their children to school.
Our group came up with lots of fantastic ideas on how our school can promote the use of Fair Trade such as making posters, selling Fair Trade products in school, using our school blog and writing letters to shops, persuading them to sell more Fair Trade products. We will be regularly updating this page with progress on our Fair Trade journey
Are there any other schools who either have or are working towards the Fair Trade Status?
Can anyone think of any Fair Trade products they have seen in the shops?
What suggestions could you make for our steering group?

The fairtrade products i’ve seen in shops are chocolate, hot chocolate, coffee, juice, cereal and fruit.

We should make a little sentence underneeth the logo like for e.g Giving others what we don’t need or Making life better . Somthing like that.
We could make some posters to promote Fair Trade or a website , blog in them we will say what is Fair Trade and why we want people to buy it.
We could do somthing spectaculair for the 2 weeks of Fair Trade like some games that the payed money by people will go to these countrys in Africa that Fair Trade is in contact. The money goes to hospitals , schools and houses.
Last year there was an essemby about Fair Trade it said that if you buy products from Fai Trade the a 1/4 of it will go to the countrys .

Fairtrade, when i first explained it to my brother he thought it meant trade fairly but i corrected him and said: fair tade means when food is made from a different country and is brought to us, we trade them and give them money for thier kids school and organisations. All around the world and countrys, people make food for E.G. chocolate like kit kat, coffee, juice, cereal and fruit. cocoa is made from Ghana, navrongo.
Fairtrade is very important, you should always buy choclate or fruit with a fair trade logo on it.Fair trade means that 3pounds go to to the farmers who plant the cocoa beans.
All around the world people make food like:choclate bars, kit kat, coffee, juice and cereal is made from Africa(ghana, navrongo and nigeria). If its not Fair trade the farmers will only get 3p.
Fairtrade is really importatnt because all the workers that grow the cocoa beans
and every thing else get 70p for all there hard work.If its not fairtrade they will get
3p.Thats not alot.Just think all that hard work they do for only 3p!Fairtrade is really
good to all the farmers and people that work hard on growing everything we need.

As a member of the fairtrade school councile group i think that everybody should be able to buy fairtrade items because its like buying normal items but more benafit goes to the hard working farmers. I have tried my best that nearly every thing i buy is fairtrade e.g chocolate and coffee i dont get the one thats nearest or anything like that i actually look and look for the fairtrade symbol and if its not there i just buy any.
In my opinion ,I think that fair trade is all about buying things so that you personally know that what you eat some one has worked hard for it and then they have there well earned and deserved money.Does anybody agree with me?
I have seen so many things that are fairtrade chocolate, hot chocolate, coffee and tea.
In year 6 we are writing a letter to persuade shopkeepers to sell Fairtrade products. If the shopkeeper knows what fairtrade is and how it works then the shopkeeper can tell its custermers. We want alot of people to buy Fairtrade product because it would help the farmer and its family.
