Class 7 have a baking morning!

Baking morning in Class 7.

Class 7 won a privilege card from Mr Smith for us all being on green when he popped in. We had a vote and decided on a baking session. This morning we made pizzas with various toppings and then we made chocolate crispy buns. They were delicious! We had a brilliant morning and thought we would share our photographs. Next time you get a privilege card maybe you should vote for a baking session!

Eggstravaganza!

Our School Council asked if we could hold an egg decorating competition, this was considered to be a great idea so we asked the children to decorate a hard boiled egg in whatever way they wanted.  Since then the eggs have rolled in and we have been amazed at the variety, imagination, attention to detail and innovation of the entries.

We have had eggs decorated as bees, ladybirds, celebrities, spiders, rabbits and clowns.  We have spotted John Bishop, Lady GaGa, Homer and Marge Simpson, Minnie and Mickey Mouse.  We liked the word play in “Eggsplosion”, “Eggshausted”, Harry the Eggjog, and The Eggs factor.  There were sporting themes in netball, wrestling, rugby and  scuba diving eggs.  There were rabbits, cats, peacocks, chicks, sheep and mice.  Angry birds sat alongside Cleopatra, several Humpties had fallen off several walls and there were eggs decorated in very colourful paint designs.  Well done to the families of Nessfield for such an eggsellent effort.  The eggs will be judged by our panel consisting of Mrs Wright, Mrs Tetley, Mrs Gabrielli and Mrs Marshall. The winners will be announced in Friday’s assembly.

Take a look at the photos below.  Which would you have selected as the winner and why?

Lady’s Day “School of Rock”

Tomorrow is not only Sport Relief, but is also Nessfield Year 5′s Lady’s Day “School of Rock”. The children will be bringing their female relatives to take part in a full day of rock band related fun, frolics and cross curricular activities based on Just Dance 2 for the Wii and Guitar Hero 5 for the Xbox. The Curriculum ICT team will be on hand to ensure that all runs smoothly and that everyone has a great time. One of the activities through the day will be posting comments on this post to describe how the day is going. So Year 5 and ladies it’s over to you. What activity did you enjoy the most and why? Looking forward to reading some fab comments and working with you all.

Reduce, Reuse, Recycle

Over the last few weeks we have been talking about ways to reduce our waste, to reuse our waste in other ways and to recycle as much as possible.  There are loads of ideas at

http://www.jointhepod.org

Which is where we found these recycled sculpures.

Click on the images to enlarge them and identify the recyled components.

What are you doing to reduce, reuse or recylce?  Leave a comment and share your ideas with everyone else.

5000

Let’s celebrate!

We have now exceeded 5000 visitors.

Thank you to everyone who has shown interest in the children’s work at Nessfield Primary School.

Good Work March 16th

Today’s assembly was full of good work and other achievements too. Unfortunately some of the younger children rushed back to class before Mr. Smith had time to collect their work for scanning. They were the children in Year 1 who had written some brilliant instructions on how to become knight. we will try to retrieve these and post them at a later date.

Lexie and Eve have created a 3D collage to show the different layers of the rainforest and which animals live in each layer.

Morgan was chosen this week as he has always focused on the activities he has been asked to complete.  In Maths, Morgan’s class have been interpreting and presenting data.  Morgan presented information about deforestation in a bar chart.

Freya and Joshua worked hard to create a tangram design of a human figure for Maths Challenge D.  They tried hard to use lots of mathematical vocabulary to describe it.

Brandon’s class got a privilege for all children being green i.e. well behaved when Mr Smith visited. Brandon has collected data about which treat or privilege they would like as a reward. He brought a tally table, bar chart and had also made up his own questions to ask about the data.  Can you work out which privilege the class chose?

Alfie has been writing a persuasive argument as to whether animals should be kept in captivity.  He was selected for Good Work assembly as he has made a big improvement with his handwriting.

Lewis and Year 2 have been working on a Superhero topic.  This is Lewis’s writing plan.  He will use it to descibe the perfect shirt for a Superhero, as you can see it is packed with imaginative features.

Danesh came to assembly with his best piece of writing ever!  He had written a detailed account of Beowulf’s fight with Grendel.  It was action packed and he had correctly used speech marks for the characters. Well done Danesh.

Kaishi’s Mum sent a letter to Good Work Assembly to let school know that Kaishi was one of only 6 winners in a competition run by The Guardian.  He had to think up his own ideal robot and let them know its name and the things he’d like it to do.

Kaishi told us that you fed his robot, which is called Dinerbot, ingredients, the robot then cooked them and the meal came out ready to eat from a flap on its tummy.  It also swept the floor and washed the dishes.  He won a copy of the book “Robot City” signed by the author Paul Collicut. We are all very proud of him.

We also heard from the Year 5 Basketball Team reached the final of their competition but were denied victory by our friends from Lees Primary.

Finally we heard from the children in the Enterprise Group who took their idea of The Mad Hatters Kitchen to “The Dragons” to see if they could compete in this year’s Step Up Challenge.  They practised their presentation with Mr Smith and he was impressed and prepared to “buy in”.  The results will be out next Wednesday.  Our fingers are crossed!

Good Work Friday March 9th

Here is this week’s sample from our Good Work assembly.

Joseph’s writing about Grendel from Beowulf.

Alfie wrote about the marshes where Grendel lived.

Jack and Bronwyn wrote smoothie recipes that had to be fit for Superheroes.

Reece was selected for his good work as he had worked independently to complete fraction word problems.   He now undersatnds the rule: divide by the bottom and multiply by the top.  He didn’t answer all the questions correctly but he persevered.  Well done Reece.

Ben brought his work on photosynthesis which was part of Year 4′s Rainforest project.

Finley’s rainforest pastel artwork.

Ellie used personification in this poem about the night.

Toby persuaded the council to think again with this piece of writing.

Year 5 visit the Star Centre

Year 5 had a smashing time at The Star Centre in Keighley last week! We learned lots of interesting facts about space travel and the planets in out solar system. We even got a chance to play at working for NASA and walking on the moon. Can anyone in Year 5 tell us anything they learnt?

Art Club

In Art Club, we have been looking at the work of Jackson Pollock, who made images by splatting paint onto a canvas. We made some fabulous pieces of art, and a tremendous mess. In amongst our work, I have included a genuine Pollock original. Can you spot it?
