Year 4 visit the Rainforest!

Year 4 has just started their new topic about Rainforests.  So far, we have been looking at the globe and identifying the tropics and the location of rainforests in the world.

This afternoon, we have been learning about different types of climates including tropical, polar, cool temperate, warm temperate and desert climates.

We will be moving onto learning more about rainforests and the plants and animals that live there.

Year 5 and 6 – can you remember doing this topic? Did you enjoy it? What do you remember from what you learnt?

Year 4 – can you post a question in the comments box about something you would like to find out about during our topic.

Year 1, 2 and 3 – do you know anything about Rainforests already?!

We are looking forward to our visit to the South Lakes Animal Park on Thursday 21st March to learn about animal adaptations in the rainforests.

It’s Team Point Thursday!

Remember if you get 10 out of 10 or 5 out of 5 on your accelerated reader quiz, on a Thursday, you get a team point!

This week’s star readers…!

Our star readers this week on Accelerated Reader are:

Year 3 and 4 – KACIE

Year 5 and 6 – GRACE

Both these girls have worked really hard on their reading and have both surpassed their target for this half term.

The leader board has been updated – go and check whether your name has appeared on it this week!

Favourite reading books this half term!

What is your favourite reading book you have read this half term? Why was it your favourite?  Would you recommend it to someone else?  How many points was it worth and what score did you get on your quiz?!

Accelerated Reader News!

Well done to everyone in Key Stage 2 who are working hard with their reading.  The results are looking very promising for this half term with lots of children making good progress towards their target.

The children who are doing the best are those children who read their books carefully every day and try to do at least one quiz a week.  When doing their quizzes, they are using their books to help them find the answers which is an important skill in reading comprehension.

Miss Robinson is in the computer room during reading time every day and is making sure that everyone is doing their best with the accelerated reader quizzes.

Leader board

The new ‘improved’ leader board next to the kitchen is updated every week.  We now have a leader board for Years 3 / 4 and Years 5 / 6.  Remember to check it regulary to see if you’ve made it onto the leaderboard!

Accelerated Reader Club

Lots of Year 5 and 6 children have been coming into school early at 8.30am to do their quizzes – more children are always welcome! See Mr Bell if you want the opportunity to do extra quizzes before school.

Certificates will be given out for those children who achieve their target in the last good work assembly before half term.
