We took part in numerous activities throughout the day, culminating in an extreme reading extravaganza which saw us reading in places such as Mr Norman’s car roof and on the trim trail!

We had a really good day learning about different kinds of books and characters and Ahmed chose 4DH’s new class reader book after gaining over 100 ticks on the Raving Readers board! We are now reading How To Tain Your Dragon: A Hero’s Guide To Deadly Dragons by Cressida Cowell.

Year 4 would love to hear everyone else’s experience of World Book Day and look forward to reading your comments!

Mr Hunter

The adults in year 4 would like to take this opportunity to congratulate our wonderful year group and their achievements over the year so far!

The boys have been outstanding in swimming and have nearly all achieved their 25 metre certificates which will be coming to a house near you very soon!

The girls can now boast a whole back catalogue of songs to play after successfully learning the key notes on a recorder! We must give a big thanks to Mrs Postlethwaite for her time.

I am sure year 4 will continue to go from strength to strength in 2013; keep reaching for the stars!

A summary from Mr Stott:

Mr Stott and Miss Lawton’s effort – we found the snow quite tricky to work with and had to use our perseverance skills as the head kept falling off! We realised we couldn’t build high because the snow was very fine and almost “crumbly”.

Miss Wilkinson

It’s harder than it looks, this bike riding business! Today marked my first efforts towards achieving my new year’s resolution: I will learn to ride a bike. If I’m honest, this has been a resolution of mine before. Needless to say, I didn’t meet it. If I’m being really honest, I’ve never met a resolution. Ever.
This morning, my commitment to this promise was minimal. I’d agreed to do it before Christmas after spending the day with Mr Stott and Mrs Rawnsley. Clearly, Mr Stott had faith that I would try my best to complete the task when he announced my mission to Key Stage Two in assembly last week…I was actually going to have to do this!
As much as I doubted it, I survived my first attempt in assembly today. Miss Cawood was shocked to notice me shaking when I attempted to balance on the bike. Whether that was through fear or focus I don’t know, probably a mixture of the two. Despite studying Mr Gutkowski’s style on a bike this morning, I’ve got a feeling I won’t learn through imitation alone here.
Key Stage One have already offered me lots of excellent advice to help me start peddling towards success. Key Stage Two have the honour of witnessing my second attempt in the morning. Beware Key Stage Two – there will be hi-vis involved. I have already revised the equipment from today’s effort (thanks Miss Cawood for the loan) and I’ll try post a photo later.
As simple as this may sound to many of you it means a lot to me. Achieving a goal, pushing myself, doing something new, getting fitter (hopefully), gaining a skill.

Why am I bothering to blog about it? Three reasons:
1. Most of you will be able to ride a bike – any tips?

2. I want to share my learning journey with you – which muscles might I need? (I don’t mean calf/thigh/hamstring here; think BLP)

3. To prove that you are never too old to learn something new. At Princeville we are all life long learners and I’m going to prove it!
