The following details are based on information from CSH Software who produce the software used for the challenge. Be aware that the dates are provisional and may change; please check out this site regularly for updates. If you are a registered school for the competition you will be sent notification of changes by e-mail. Please check your e-mail and Edmodo frequently.
September 2010 - Install software and initial training All schools competing in the Challenge need to install the Cars - Maths in Motion software version 12. Please note that existing software users need to upgrade to the Version 12 to compete in the Challenge for 2010 - 2011 and ensure your software is successfully installed by the end of September at the latest. The initial training for staff and up to 4 pupils will take place on 21 September 20010 9:30-14:30 at CLC Challenge. Click here to book your place New schools to the Challenge will need to attend this session. Attendance is not compulsory for those schools who have been involved in previous years October - December 2010 - First 3 online races. All schools will be grouped into mini leagues. There will be a series of 6 online races for each of the mini leagues. The details for each race will be posted on this website approximately on a 3 weekly basis. The details are entered into the software at each school and then each school allows their pupils to design cars for that race. The school then has a race to find the fastest car for that race; this car is submitted to the Edmodo website, before a given date. The cars will then be raced and the winners will be posted on this site. The results of these races will be added to each league and at the end of the races the top teams in each league will be entered into the Final to find the Bradford Champion for each of the three categories. (KS2, KS3,KS4) It is therefore important that you have the software installed in time for the first race as missing a race will seriously affect your chances of finishing in the top half of your league. Online race 1 - car to be submitted to the Edmodo website by Wednesday 22 October for a race on Friday 24 October. Online race 2 - car to be submitted to Edmodo website by Wednesday 24 November for a race on Friday 26 November. Online race 3 - car to be submitted to Edmodo website by Wednesday15 December for a race on Friday 17 December. December 2010 - Winter F2F race These have proved very popular in the past and allow children from all different schools to work together in teams to compete in a one off race with each other. These races are optional and do not affect the online leagues but are very enjoyable events to participate in. It also allows teachers and children to get further support with using the software. This will be held on 16 December. Click here to book January - March 2011 - last 3 online races The second half of the season will consist of the last 3 online races. The dates for these races are below. Online race 4 - car to be submitted to the Edmodo website by Wednesday 26 January for a race on Monday 28 January. Online race 5 - car to be submitted to the Edmodo website by Wednesday 16 February for a race on Friday 18 February. Online race 6 - car to be submitted to the Edmodo website by Wednesday 23 March for a race on Friday 25 March.
March - April 2010 - KS2 play off This year any schools in the KS2 section who did not qualify for the Final (and have sent cars in for at least 3 online races) will be eligible for a one off race to reach the Final. The top 3 cars in this race will qualify for the Final. This will give a chance to any school that has not been able to compete in all the races or have had difficulties with the software / Challenge. The schools concerned will be notified by email and published on this website
April - May 2010 - Bradford School's Final The Bradford Finals will be open to the top teams in each of the online leagues (this will be any school who finishes in the top half of their school online league and the schools who qualified through the play off) in the 3 age ranges. The winning cars will then be e-mailed to CSH Software and entered into the National play offs. CSH race all the cars they receive in the 3 age ranges and then choose the top 10 in each category as National Finalists. If your school is in the top 10 in the country you will be invited to send a team to the National Final. Bradford Final dates - TBC
National Final at the Heritage Motor Centre, Birmingham. This is open to any schools that have made the National Finals via the races already outlined. We have managed to get a Bradford school to the finals in the last 4 years, last year Peel Park Primary made the KS2 finals. Hopefully we can have another representative from Bradford at the National Finals. Date for National Final - TBC
